The Santa Cruz Yacht Club (SCYC) encourages youth sailing
to ensure the future of the sport.
We have three activities under the Junior Sailing Program umbrella:
El Toro
Our youngest sailors are taught fundamentals
of proper boat handling, rigging, sailing
in different conditions, racing, and tactics
in El Toros
on Pinto Lake.
To get connected with their fleet outside of our program,
sailors are encouraged to attend Stockton Sailcamp
and to get involved with the El Toro International Yacht Racing Association.
Scholastic
High school sailors train and race FJs
competing with other schools in the the region.
Coached practices are held just outside the
Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor
in the Monterey Bay.
Advanced
SCYC Juniors also compete independently
in other venues
such as Lasers
and 29ers
throughout the world.
Young sailors participating in these activities
must be SCYC Junior members and
must adhere to the Junior Code of Conduct.
In return, Junior members enjoy privileges
of SCYC membership and
are invited to bring their parents to club activities.
Parents need not be SCYC members for their children
to apply for membership.
However, we are a volunteer organization;
and parent participation and help are essential.
