2023 BAYS Regatta Winter Series #1

Small Boat Sailing (8-12yrs)

Our youngest sailors are taught fundamentals of proper boat handling, rigging, sailing in different conditions, racing, and tactics in an Optimist .

Scholastic (8th -12 Grade)

High school sailors train and race FJs, competing with other schools in the region. 8th graders can join and prepare to sail for their high school. Coached practices are held just outside the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor in the Monterey Bay.

Advanced (High School)

SCYC Juniors also compete independently in other venues such as Lasers ,  29ers , and 420s throughout the Bay Area and around the world.

Junior Membership Benefits:

Use of the SCYC clubhouse: Juniors may use the clubhouse for meetings, pizza parties, and other Junior functions. The club boasts a beautiful outdoor deck and barbecue, a full kitchen, and showers.

Water Access:  Juniors have access to the waters of the Monterey Bay through use of the dinghy ramp, and are also able to use 2 ton boat hoist with adult supervision.

Junior Shed and Dry Slips: The Juniors have their own shed for storage of sails, parts, and other equipment. Limited storage of boats is available in the Junior dry slip area, where boats may be stored on trailers.

Insurance: SCYC Juniors are covered under the SCYC insurance policy when participating in club programs and regattas.

Dinners at the Clubhouse: Juniors and their families may enjoy delicious dinners at the clubhouse on Friday and Sunday evenings.

Junior Parents are Guests:  All Juniors can invite their parents to any appropriate SCYC clubhouse event as their guest.

Parents need not be SCYC members for their children to apply for membership. However, we are a volunteer organization; and parent participation is required.

Financial Assistance for Junior Sailors

There are 2 possibilities where a junior sailor can request financial support by submitting a grant application to the following groups.

1. The Good Of Yachting of the SCYC - promotes sailing to persons of all ages.
